Reasons and solutions for the Nokia 6300 poor battery life issue.

Posted by: Edd Mills on: May 16, 2007

I got my Nokia 6300 about 2 months ago now because I lost my old Samsung D500 while clubbing in London. I made the mistake of wearing jeans with very shallow pockets and it managed to fall out. That or this guy who was harassing me for much of the night stole it. I prefer the latter excuse because it makes me seem less stupid.

Anyway, as much as I adore my new phone (let’s face it, that screen is just gorgeous), the battery life on it is just not good enough. Many people report having to charge nightly, which is just not acceptable for any phone. It’s a waste of power and just an inconvenience if you ever needed to go for more than a day without having access to a power supply. Due to this, I’ve done some research and found out why the battery life is so poor and some solutions to help prolong the battery life.

The main reason for the poor battery life is due to the battery being insufficient for the specification of the phone. It appears to keep the phone as slim as it is, Nokia have put in a relatively old battery; one that they were using in phones that had just 4096 colour screens and the screen itself was perhaps half the size of the 6300’s. Due to this, it is hardly surprising that the 16 million colour screen that graces the 6300 is a power hungry monster.

Before I begin with the solutions you should remember that the battery life will never go beyond 2 or perhaps 3 days. It simply lacks the power. Perhaps if you didn’t use it once, it may stretch beyond 3 days, but even that is doubtful. These tips are just general points to be more power conscious; don’t expect any miracles, the battery is purely insufficient.

Here are my top tips to help prolong the battery life on the phone.:

  1. Allow the phone to completely discharge before recharging.
When it reaches full, take it off the power. Complete this cycle a few times and you may find that the battery life does increase somewhat. Some people have reported being  able to get an extra day or so out of the battery following this procedure.
  2. Turn off the screen saver.
When the screen saver is enabled, the screen stays lit up for quite a while after you have locked the keypad. This drains power needlessly so I recommend you turn this off.
  3. Turn sleep mode off.
Yes, I know what you’re thinking but you can save your battery by turning this feature off. If you have sleep mode on, the screen goes completely blank when the phone isn’t being used. This means that if you want to check the time, see if you have a new text message or anything else, you need to get the screen to come on in its entirety. If you keep sleep mode off, you can quickly look at your phone to check these things without enabling the screen every time. This should help reduce battery life because you won’t have the screen on and off all the time.
  4. Press the red soft key (the button you use to hang up) after you have locked the keypad.
This forces the phone’s screen to turn off much more rapidly than if left to its own devices.
  5. Don’t leave the bluetooth or GPRS on.
Only enable bluetooth when you need it and set your GPRS settings so that it only comes on when it is required. Leaving it on constantly is pointless and a waste of your precious battery life.
  6. Send a text instead of calling where possible.
Sadly, calling is one of the worst things to affect your battery on this phone so where possible, send a text instead. Bit of a tenuous solution, but nevertheless something to bear in mind.

If anyone else has any top tips to helping  improve the battery life, please leave them as a comment and I’ll add them on to this list.

I have bought the 6300 too.

The mp3 player built in is pretty good for a mobile phone. The sound quality is far superior to the 6230 I had before (which was ancient … and one of the first phones to have mp3 players integrated).

However, on my old 6230 I was able to listen to mp3s all day at work on a single charge. Yesterday (one of the first charge cycles on the phone) my 6300 battery went upside-down before noon, and I got pissed. Since the old charger I have lying around at work doesn’t connect to the 6300 without an adapter I was just forced to listen to nothing :(

Today, after a complete discharge-charge cycle, it seems to have gotten a little better. At noon I will know for sure though.

Good tip about hitting the red button after engaging keypad lock! I’m going to be using that one.

I had hoped that the battery on the 6300 would be better than on my 6230, but I found that it only carries 680mAh where as my old 6230 carried 980mAh. That’s a big difference :( I just hope the energy saving features on the 6300 (sleep mode) will help me around the smaller battery issue.

If you have sleep mode engaged (screen off) and you get a text message, the blue leds on the side of the phone will light up, so you don’t have to activate the screen to find out if you got a text. If you want to see what time it is, it is probably better to just get a watch, if you want to save the battery on the phone ;) (yes I use my phone as a watch too – it’s been 5 years since I last wore a wrist-watch, just gonna have to look at my computer instead of the phone to see what time it is I guess).

Nice point there about the blue lights for texts. I’m not sure if it does it for missed calls though? I personally find that turning sleep mode off is better for me, I suppose it’s down to your own needs.
Perhaps Nokia will release a high capacity battery that we can use or a firmware update that helps with the power usage?
Glad you found some of the tips useful though.

To prolong the battery life of a Nokia 6300…use a BL-5C battery. Just rub part of the plastic part on one end of the battery since it is half a millimeter thicker. The phone may weight a few more grams, but battery life is much better. Say 25-30% longer. Got this solution from http://www.gsmarena.com. Go check it out.

Thanks for the tips Edd, they have enabled me to get some more juice from the battery and a couple of extra days before a recharge is needed. Also, I would recommend to everyone a get the USB charger lead from http://www.mobileplace.co.uk. Only costs £4.95. You can charge the phone up from your PC or Mac without the need for a wall socket.

I couldn’t understand that point about “Sleep Mode On”. Rather, if we turn on the “Power Save Mode”, the display shows a small band with time, date and keypad lock/unlock status. So whether you keep sleep mode on or off, is not related to achieving display of clock on the blank screen. Instead it is the “Power save mode”. Turning this on will do the trick.

The point about the red button was really helpful.

The point about completely discharging and then charging the battery fully also seems to increase battery life.

hello

i live in mexico and i bought 12 days ago my nokia 6300 and i have the same problem about the life of the battery… i had to return it to the technical support of my service provider to check if its normal this poorly battery life or may be it has a problem or something.

I can see i’m not the only one sad about this model’s battery poor performance.

I even DON’T listen any mp3 or take any picture with the phone and i still having just one full day with the battery alive…

Nokia please DO SOMETHING !!!

Nokia certainly made me disappointed.6300 is a beautiful phone except its battery life.Nokia, Why did u make a mistake like this?

I don’t have any issues with battery life. I never run with blue-tooth on. I listen to mp3’s regularly (I have done a full-day playing mp3s on it, and had atleast enough charge to last another day without *needing* to charge.

Bluetooth is probably your biggest enemy. If you have the little blue bluetooth symbol up the top, you are definently going to have issues.

Discharging Li-Ons may actually be a bad thing. You should probably check online about it. The Discharge-recharge method was (as far as I was aware) necesary for older battery types. But I thought that discharging li-ons completely was actually harmful to the batteries. (like; running it flat by accident isnt a problem, but purposefully running it flat as often as you can might not be a good idea. A quick search on wikipedia aught solve the issue.)

But; all I can stress is bluetooth, it is the bane of battery life. Turn it off. Unless you have a call you *must* make using bluetooth, dont use it. The more communication it does via bluetooth the quicker its going to die. Any time you make a call; it uses more battery because its transmitting heaps. With a blue-tooth headset, its transmitting on the GSM network AND transmitting on the bluetooth frequencies. This will kill your batteries twice (or more!) as fast as just always talking on the phone normally.

I might be lucky with my battery life; but I don’t seem to have any major issues with it.

I have just checked my battery; it is a nokia BL-4C.

It’s an 860 mAh battery (as opposed to the earlier posted that claimed theres was a 680 mAh); perhaps this is the source of my better battery experience. This battery came as standard for me. (in Australia).

One more thing; avoid the camera. I am sure this uses a heap of battery when its in use. (I very very rarely use it).

http://www.batteryuniversity.com/parttwo-34.htm

Dont fully discharge your battery *every* time, do it maybe once every 30 charges. (Lithium doesnt have a charge-memory like old nickel based batteries).
Fully discharging is not a *great* idea for your battery.

Try to keep it coolish (the hotter the battery is the shorter the time it will survive – it will charge to 60% of its original capacity after 1 year subjected to 50 degrees celcius – thats halfway to boiling from freezing for farenheitians) various precentages between 94 and 60 for lower temperatures.

Read the page; its useful info.

PS. Sorry about comment spam!

Lesser you keep the screen on,
longer the battery will live.

Look lets stop screwing around her. Bottom line good …no brill phone, S*it bnattery life or battery.
Nokia have been getting it wrong in all aspects of its recent phones and are in serious danger of losing its reputation as the world’s best cellphone maker. The N series for instance is a huge (piece of sh*t) disappointment. Nearly all their recent phones are a waste of money and its no wonder people are turning to the likes of Sony E and Samsung.
Get you act together Nokia, though I suspect its already to late as people’s patience is running out.

I bought 6300 4days ago. I love the thickness, the colors, the sounds. But the life battery really not good. So, I decided to buy extra battery to make sure I can’t miss texting and calling my friends. :) — > hoping that Nokia can renovate the battery and make it long last. :)

Not sure if “Uffe” had a key slip but my BL-4C battery that came with the phone is 860 mAh and not 680.This is an improvement over the old BL-4C that used to be 700mAh. Nokia has 40+ different manufacturers making battery’s for them around the world and it might just be that some battery’s are still being put in phones with the old 700mAh spec.Might be worth checking your battery to find out.

I think we are all missing the point here about “turn this off, turn that off, don’t use this or that to save battery” WHY SHOULD WE !Its the phone makers that put the stuff on to be used and WE should be able to use it,and still have decent battery life.
Its just a mad rush to cram as much stuff onto a phone(and not worry that some of the software has bugs and dont work properly) to get your money.I think SE have just bought out a phone that has all the usual camera, walkman stuff etc, PLUS a pulse monitor and distance counter to use while your jogging ! It might be handy to some people but i think its all getting a bit silly especially when it comes at the expense of call quality, reception problems, battery life etc.Also.. phone makers should be made to tell the truth about call and standby times instead of the wildly exaggerated times that they all seem to make these days.If people knew the truth before they bought the phone they would’nt buy it,this would affect sales and you can bet the manufacturers would soon do something to improve things.
Did’nt mean this to turn into a rant….it just sort of happened ……. sorry : )

..the battery is just terrible! It messes the good look of the phone. I can’t beleive Nokia can do such a big blunder in this day and age of high tech. I’m really pissed!

is anybody use BL-5C ?
it is possible just a litle bit gnaw it and you can use it in your Nokia 6300

is anybody use BL-5C ?
it is possible just a litle bit gnaw(cut ) it and you can use it in your Nokia 6300

NAMIK
I use a BL-5C in my 6300 that i have sanded down and it works great. Just sand the plastic side down as close to the contacts as you can get.You can easily see where the BL5 is fatter when you compare it to your BL4

Nokia Sucks…
its sucks Money from us these days.
i just wanted to point out that discharging and the recharging doesn’t help you to get better performance instead it jeopardise your important calls when in times to come.

But i’m definitely going to try that grinding the back of
BL-5c…Hope it will improve my poor battery life.

Enjoy…N6300

thanks guys for the BL5 TIP.
Canadian carriers add 850Mhz BL$ battery
i’ll buy ver5 from ebay for extra $10

Mine sucks too, sent it back 4 times, now they’ve offered to exchange for a different phone after I wrote a letter to Finland!

What about the BL-6C battery at 1070 mAh? Is it just too thick? Haven’t seen one yet.

Just saw the BL-6C is almost 2mm thicker so wouldn’t work I assume.

Is there a way to disable the blue led from lighting after receiving a message? Turning that off will save battery power. Thanks.

Don’t buy a BL5 860 mAh .You can get a genuine Nokia BL5 battery WITH A MASSIVE 1020 mAh on E Bay.
I bought one, sanded it down and the battery life problem with the 6300 is history

Nokia should release a new battery for 6300, I am ready to pay for it if Nokia provides a permanent solution.

Does 5c actually makes a difference, bec my 4c is also 860mAh and most 5c’s are also around the same, so wondering how could it make any noticeable difference………?

The phone get very hot even for a 3 mins usage.I want to know whether its a inherent issue with this model??

Hi All,

We are trying to find a work around for the inherent Design Flaw from Nokia,I think we should get back to nokia and they should recall this faulty product.

Nokia’s missio statement states”Connecting People” looks like they are disconnected from the world when its come to quality of the products….I guess its time for all Nokia 6300 to contact and get this product recalled from the market.

jeff / anybody, Yes suffering battery strife with my Nokia 6300, basically its rubbish.

I’ve been looking for a BL5 with 1020mAH but can’t find one anywhere. Have you got a link?

Cheers

put your finger on the camera lens.take this dark photo.use it as a wall paper. because it is dark,it will save battey power.

VENTURE-UK on ebay sell the Nokia 1020 batteries for £8 and thats with P&P

Not too hot with computers so cant do links but here is the item number for the 1020 battery that VENTURE-UK are selling Item number: 110169973929

I to could not beleve how bad the battery life was on my phone i have had it four days i left it on charge all day yesterday spoke on it for a couple of hours in the evening its now showing a quater charge i actually thought i had been given a duff battery but after reading all your comments this looks like a common problem so i think the BL5 1200mah might be the only option shame though as the phone it self is great.

went into the 02 shop today kicked up a fuss and managed to get them to supply me with a BL5 1200MAH battery at no extra charge it pays to moan

Great news, thanks. Sorted fitting of BL-5c in 5minutes.

My 6300 lasts about 82 hours with one single recharge :) :) do I need to conserve hehehheheheheheh I love my phone and nothing beats it… so long everybody…

Which battery are u using? Whats its mAh?

Hi
I dont know why you are dong this blc5 conversion. Its not clever when the battery is only 9 dollars ( shipping Included for USA/CAnada) at emtccompany.com. Buy 2 extra batteries and feel safe that you have spare batteries charged and ready to go. Plus theyu wont leak due to sanding or explode.

thanks for ur tips on increasing battery life of nokia 6300.
i also brought one recently and was fraustrated with it’s low battery life but had to carry on.
the red softkey tip has been very helpfull. it took so long for the screen to go off. i am interested in the views of anybody having tried the bl-5c battery on 6300. pls keep us informed. thanks

Hi,
Did somebody have a tutorial on how to trim a BL-5C to make it fit in there ? I am planning on buying this phone and because of the small cost of a better battery, I would like to try this mod.
Thanks!

Hiyah!
If ya send me your email address I’ll send ya some pics, just did the modification myself with the BL5C 970 maH and so far so good.

Cheers Michael

Michael, please send me the pictures to
0xCAFE [at[] 0xCAFE (dot) ca

Thanks!

@oxCAFE just sent ya the pics so enjoy!
Michael

Hmm… I have not received them yet… I will wait a bit more…

Just want to make sure that you used 0xCAFE with a zero I(spells zero-x-c-a-f-e.
Sorry, I should have specified it before.
Thanks again !

Hi, Michael Henshilwood i want to know if it really has a big diference when u get to fit BL5C 970 maH on ur N6300, can u tell us about much time it takes to discharge and what kind of use u give the phone everyday. Thanks Very much.

Michael Henshilwood could you please send me the pics of the modify bk5c battery? thanks
ricepickin_si@hotmail.com

HellO! I found somebody on the net that posted pictures :
http://www.howardforums.com/showpost.php?p=9345701&postcount=14
0xCAFE

And for you guys that want to have hard specs, here are the battery sizes :

Standard battery in 6300 is BL-4C(860 mah)
BL-4C dimensions are 53.1mm x 33.4mm x 4.5mm

Next size bigger battery is BL-5C(970 mah) quite easy to fit.
BL-5C dimensions are 53.05mm x 33.84mm x 5.62mm

Bigger still is the BL-6C(1150 mah)- this may be too big to modify for fitting in to the 6300.
BL-6C dimensions are 53.25mm x 33.9mm x 6.30mm

I still haven’t heard anybody modding a BL-6C to get it to fit, but it might be possible (I don’t have one at hand).

I recently got one in New Zealand through a paralell importing place, as they don’t sell them here through dealers etc.

I also have the BL-4C, and it must be the upgraded one cause the battery life is fine.

I got it on Thursday, and it was fully charged by like 8pm. It is now 12pm on Sunday and its on about 1/3 battery power according to the indicator. That means it’ll have at least 3 days battery life – which is really pretty standard for phones these days with colour screens and mp3 players, etc etc.

So I’d recommend a BL-4C like the one I have or not using bluetooth etc.

Mine will be coming early this week, maybe tomorrow (Monday). It’s from Fido in Canada.

Is there a way to know what is the capacity (mAh) of a battery without simply reading the label ?

Update – it went low batter today, which is Monday, at about 7.30pm. So it was going for over 4 days on its first charge.

I think you guys are getting poor quality batteries in other parts of the world cause 4 days is pretty ok in my books for a phone these days.

just wanna ask… if i chg my 6300 batt from bl4 to bl5 ,
will it harm my phone? or any risk for exploding?
cuase i just bought my bl5 1020 mAh batt yst…
i cut of the end a lil juz like the pic oxCafe show us.
i’m just worried about the risk…

@mei
As long as the battery has the same connector and same voltage (3.7v), you are OK. Of course, it will have to fit or you might get a bad contact and your phone could shutdown.

In this case, BL-5C instead of BL-4C, you can’t go wrong as it’s the same manufacturer of cellphone and they follow the same standards.

i bet nokia will shortly release 6300i or something like this and say that it has an improved batt life.. when they could do it from the beggining.. but no.. let’s scam ‘em.

nokia alredy have 6301

Hey All some useful tips on here… thought I would let you all know that I have bought a BL-5C Battery for my 6300 and the battery life is no problem at all now. Its like a normal phone..

You can actually fit the 5C without any modification at all, just tilt it up at 45degrees before putting it in… it fits fine!!! The battery cover doesnt quite go all the way home but it works fine.

There is no risk of using this battery in this phone as it is the same voltage.

all the bl-5c batts i see on ebay are 850mh. anyone direct me to the 970mah mentioned by oxCAFE???

Here what I have to suggest. I did not buy it because I don’t think my 6300 has such a bad battery problem i charge it about one a week and I don’t talk that much with it.

But here is my suggestion:
NEW GENUINE NOKIA BL-5C BATTERY 1020mAh
Ebay ID : 110199197429, sold by user venture-uk
Looks legitimate to me and this is what I would probably buy in the future.
Price: ~10$CAD, shipping: ~8$CAD

What everybody should remember is that Nokia themselves claim is 3.5 hours talktime and up to 14.5 DAYS standby….I have never got more than 4 days only on standby. Do not be satisfied with what you think is adequate… demand that it should match their literature.

Hi everybody,

well, now this should be good:
Nokia 6300:
Battery Standard battery, Li-Ion 860 mAh (BL-4C)
Stand-by Up to 348 h
Talk time Up to 3 h 30 min

Nokia 6301:
Battery Standard battery, Li-Ion 860 mAh (BL-4C)
Stand-by Up to 310 h
Talk time Up to 3 h 30 min

source: http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone2=2108&idPhone1=1800

Stand-by time decreased 38h with the new and improved 6301…. Keep up the good work Nokia… and you’ll find your self in a s**t hole in 2 years.

This talk time measurement is as reliable as LCD timings: 2ms Gray-to-Gray but the manufacturer dose not specify the difference between the two shades of gray: is it 20% to 80% or is it 49% to 51%?

Just bought 2 6300s last week (one for me and one for my whife). We have to charge them nightly, with 20+ min talk time + 1H mp3 a day. We have the 4C 860mAh battery.

I think I’ll try the 5C battery soon… :|

sorry about the rant… but i can’t help it, especially when it is about Nokia, if it was Huavei or what ever… I would have kept my mouth shut.

Florin.

Same here Florin. Don’t get me wrong…this is a great phone except for the battery life. Me and my wife bought two last week and I’m keeping my old phone for back-up in case the battery seizes or goes “low battery” in the middle of the day.

Does anyone know who to complain to in nokia because they are the ones who should rectify this issue as other people have pointed out.

I am very disappointed actually and I’ve been careful at looking at the specs of battery life (which is the first thing I check).

Thanks for the tips guys…pressing the “hang-up button” and my screen is all black now.

By the way…BL4C is actually a battery for entry level phones with a green mono-color screen…whew

Hey

just a thought arnt the BL5C batteries the ones that were mentioned in the news becasue they were exploding while charging :| :|:|

I was about to go ahead with the mod for my 6300 then i thought of this!

Yes, but you can check the number on the Nokia website http://batteryreplacement.nokia.com/batteryreplacement/en/ and see if the one you bought is on the recall list. They will replace it right away.

hmmm well thats ok then..

one more thing…. is there deffinatly no chance of damage to the battery occouring whilst doin thins mod which might damage the fone in the long run???

i dunno somthin like battery leakage?? cos apart from battery life i love this fone lol… n dont want nothin happenin to it!

Hi all,

Thanks for all the great advice. Will definately try the BL 5C conversion. (Have two spare ones from my previous 6600) The thing about the “hang-up” button helps a lot..

Sam

Hi guys, I also have to charge everyday and its a joke!! The info on here was most useful, I have ordered a BL5-C with free desktop charger from ebay to solve my problem, ebay item no 170176937595 (£7.98)

I will let you know how its goes!!

Thanks Guys!

I’ve just received a 6301 from Orange UK and it was fully charged yesterday morning. Made calls lasting no more than 5 minutes and it this lunchtime is is flat.

No use at that, it is going back. Nokia, phone looks/is nice but useless to me. Could do better.

@Jeremy, please note that the 6301 has WiFi in it (yeah, you’re lucky). To save energy, please turn off Wifi, bluetooth and dim the screen after a few seconds.

Also, a LiIon battery needs a few charges before it reaches it’s maximum capacity.

Ok, sorry ’bout that, it’s not WiFi, but UMA it has :
(from Nokia)
# UMA enabled, offering affordable or free calls from home, the office and/or operator hotspots
# Fast service access to operator services with UMA

More info here : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unlicensed_Mobile_Access

i have a problem with my nokia 6300.
when i try and send a text message it sometimes sends a “double” or two at the same time. I find this really annoying- is it the phone or my sim card?

JSUT COMPLETED RTHE BATTERY MOD.. CUT OFF ABOUT 4MM MAX… ERM BATTERY JUST ABOUT SQUASHED IN.. AND BACK COVER IS ALSO VERY TIGHT – BUT FITS AS NORMAL.. SO THATS COOL!…. JUST GUNNA POST IN A FEW DAYS AFTER I SEE IF THE BATTERY MADE A DIFF.. BY TRHE WAY IM USING A 1020MaH BATT NW

Bad dose of Shopper’s Remorse – fell out of love with the 6300 as rapidly as the battery failed…and failed…and failed, and after a miserable 10 days (trying all the sensible suggestions above to little avail) have returned it to the shop. 2+days battery life is just unacceptable especially if you find yourself frequently off the grid. Furthermore, sound quality poor and uncomfortable to use. If they still made them I’d probably get a 6310i. What to do? What to do?

Still, mustn’t grumble…

Hi everybody,

After a two weeks or more, the battery “kicked off”…. now I’m 3+ days with music and about 15-20 min/day talk time.

Florin.

I already tried the battery BL-5C 1020 Mha, you can put it into the mobile without any cut just tilt it up at 45degrees before putting it in, it really fits, the mobile last for about 4 days now I AM HAPPY

yep with the new 5C battery im happy… considering i use the phone a lot on a daily basis around 1 hour talk min and texting.. im gettin about 3 days battery life.. so thats cool

thanks 4 useful tips….. i juz bought 6300 last xmas eve… and im complaining with itz battery life too… i wish trying bl-5c battery will be helpful… but can i turn the blue lights on the side off???

is changing its battery to bl-5c safe????

hey guys,

am pretty sure that the side blue lights can not be turned on .. although it might take up battery life i like this feature alot as u can tell if u got a text or missed call more easily so no complaints there really..

as for saftey of using a c5 battery.. its not the correct thing to do because obviously size wise that battery is not designed for this fone. however, there shouldnt be any problems because both batteries are the same in terms of voltage etc. :D :D

^^ in other words the fone can handle a c5 battery with out “blowing up” or wotever else u may be worried about

I bought the 6300 a few days ago.
Some things to have in mind are:
1) The battery lasts less if the signal strengh is poor or low, the phone consumes more energy trying to keep the signal working. (I guess city users shouldn’t have a problem)
2) There is an option to turn light effects off, probably that will turn the blue side lights off.
3) Pressing the red button should really help.
4) Bluetooth consumes incredible amounts of battery.
5) I’ll probably get another BL4 battery.

I’ve had the 6300 for about 4months now. The battery is crap and I noticed it on the first day. No discharges and recharges helped and so I finally ordered the bl-5c (will update once it arrives). I’m just wondering if there are others like myself who talk 1 hour + a day and how long does they battery last. I have to charge it every night or it would die by noon next day.

I also would like to ask here if anyone has experienced poor sound quality. The volume when on call is extremely low for me. I live in NYC and the noise on the streets makes it almost impossible to hear the other person unless I “insert” the phone in my ear. If anyone has similar problem or know of solution PLEASE PLEASE let me know as I’ve exosted all leads.

Hmm… I don’t use it to speak for 1h per day, but I use it to play MP3 and may about 10 minutes per day and the battery can last about 5-6 days without problems.

One trick, change your settings so you manually specify the network because automatic keeps looking for other “better” networks.

I have a Fido phone with “860 mAh battery (BL-4C)”
http://fido.ca/portal/product/handsetdetail.jsp?id=nokia_6300&lang=en&cat=1

I am still looking for a tool to benchmark the battery I have and compare it with the BL-5C.

However, it’s known that the BL-4C battery is only used in small monochrome screens (like 128×128) as opposed to the BL-5C which is used on color screens like the 6300.

If one of you have a benchmarking software for the battery, I would appreciate!

Hi, some interesting findings – I had 2 older bl-5c batteries from old 6630 and 6230 nokia phones. They were lower rated – 970mah I think. I absolutely had to sand down the contact end to make them fit the 6300 and they weren’t much different than the bl-4c in terms of battery life in the 6300. Anyhow I just got a brand new genuine nokia bl-5c 1020mah from ebay for £8. This one fits the Nokia 6300 with no filing down, just insert at a 45 degree angle and it slots in tightly but nicely and the battery cover fits fine. The battery life is now up to 4 days with approx 20 mins calls a day and several texts.

hi, i was thinking about getting the 6300 and was wondering what you would recommend between the genuine nokia 1020mah bl-5c or the unbranded bl-5c 1100mah and 1200mah batteries that you can get off ebay.

Thanks

I would stick to original Nokia batteries as the unbranded ones don’t last long in my opinion

nokia 1020mah bl-5c is doing well in my 6300, lasting on average a day longer than 860mah bl-4c, the phone is a bit heavier with bl05c but it makes it feel more substantial.

i just got my bl-5c 1020mah …
the guy said its original… but it looks abit fake though…
but i still bought it…
kinda worried x_x
hope it wont explode if i charge overnight

i have just bought this phone and what i want to know is does the phone tell you when the battery is full charged or do u just unplugg it after a few hours

Hi, i read all ur comand, and i saw that we have only one probleame, that is battery. I think c5 is only solution for n 6300

I have had my phone since the ninth of september. ive never really owned many phones as im 17. ive had one other, pay as you go virgin mobile. 2 years. not a single problem. i started using cell phones more and more. decided to upgrade. i got the 6300 and within two weeks the sim card was rejected. maybe i screwed with it but i dont recall. then beginning of january. my cell phone would just not turn on. The phone is impossible to charge, i have to fidle with it for 10 minutes so it charges. and it will randomely turn off or the blacklight will stop working. Nokia sent me a new 6300. The microphone on this didnt work. had to use the headset. i called them and they said they were going to send me a new model. Never came. Called them back and they said they didnt ship it. my phone was out of warranty, they didnt have the courtesy to call. Called again and said i want a new phone, battery, and charger due to all the problems. They sent me just the handset. Had to call again and the battery and charger are, supposedly, on their way. This is absolute bull. I dont understand how they can treat customer like this. Does any one else find this absurd?

Hi. I bought my n6300 yesterday. I want to complete drain my battery before i charged it to full. Because saleslady said i need to drain first then charge it to 4 hours. Then 1 hour for regular charged.

What do u call a plastic on screen. My 1/3 of my plastic on screen already removed so can i totlly removed it? it is good idea thanks.

6. Send a text instead of calling where possible.

Are you having a laugh??? It’a a phone!

6. Send a text instead of calling where possible.

^This is funny and ridiculous! Its a phone buddy and not a pager, lol…

I acknowledge in the post that the final point is a tenuous one. I was simply giving a last resort to conserve the battery if it was, for example, very low and you couldn’t reach a charger.

i got a solution for battery timing issue of nokia 6300
use a nokia E12 charger of normal older nokia phone with a conversion pin it will increase the battery timing upto 200% i tried it worked.I hope this will solve the problem

What is this “nokia E12 Charger”??! i googled it and got nothing.

Could u plz provide a link or more info?

Thanks,

i use usb charger as well!!

Hi, i got a bl-5c 1020mah from a bust Nokia 3109 which is its standard battery, put it in at 45 degrees into my 6300 as mentioned by Matt – November 17, 2007 at 2:47 pm – Response No 54. Back closes fine – so no messing with knives etc.

Way to go Matt.

Chris

hey there

I have the same problem as you all with the battery life (and thinking about trying the bl-5 one…) but I also got another one ! sometimes the screen just get “stuck” and I have to take the battery out and in again to unstuck it (no way to turn it off normaly, its just stuck and i can’t do anything then). it’s really anoying and sometimes the phone goes off while i’m having a conversation… i thought it was the battery because it doesn’t plug very well into the phone, but maybe it’s the sim card ?? anyone got an idea ???

Hi, is there a BL-4c 1200 mAh, check this out http://www.mobilestock.es/product.aspx?p=28&t=0&c=82

If you would like to try a cheap battery. According to people that bought it, it does not explode.
It’s not a real 970mAh, but it does a fine job as a backup battery. And for 3.72$ (worldwide shipping incl.) you can’t go wrong.
BL-5C Replacement Battery for Nokia N70 Cell Phones (3.7V 970mAh)

Aint we all missing the point here a bit ?NOKIA HAVE LIED ABOUT THE BATTERY TALK AND STANDBY TIMES end of.We shoudnt have to mess about with other batterys just to get the phone to last 4 days. This is still only a third of what Nokia claim is the standby time for a 6300.All this bull from Nokia about ideal conditions is rubbish.DONT accept it and keep e mailing them.

Jeff is right. If a car manufacturer mis stated the mileage figures they would be in court. I cannot understand how the phone companies can blatantly lie about the performance. As people have stated here the performance is so poor you are likely to not get a business day of use out of this phone. I’m really p1$$ed with the battery too.

Yeah, the battery standby time is measured in a lab, where no-one touches the phone and the coverage is perfect and the phone stays within the reach of one base station. Also the phone is the only subscriber for that base station, so no interference.

That sucks, but seriously, this is not a Nokia-only issue. SonyEricsson promised 290 hours for my old K600i in a 3G network, but basically I had to recharge the phone nightly.

U guys might wanna try checking out the Nokia BL-4U 1000mAH battery i think it is the same size as the BL-4C but is available only with the Nokia 8800 Arte and 3120 Classic.

http://europe.nokia.com/A4678507

I bought the dt-23 desktop stand. just sit your phone on it whenever your home/work and not using it.

Also stop you bending that nokia charger pin as i was already on my 4th charger!

http://www.mobileplace.co.uk/product/DT-23.html

I’ve read on other forums that using the microSD slot and having wallpapers be used from it will drain the battery significantly.

Refer here:
http://cellphoneforums.net/lg-chocolate/t242982-chocolate-microsd-poor-battery-life.html

I’m also wondering if copying contact list from the sim card to the phone’s internal memory may help as well as to minimize the number of sources being used.

I have purchased 6300 few weeks back..I agree for few days its performance was terrible but after 1 week I am getting super 3 days performance..I think it takes several charges to work properly.

I have done few things..u ppl can also try:

disable Blue light intimation
off the screen saver.
don’t use animated wallpaper
press the red button for few seconds it will greatly reducethe time of cell-phone’s light.
turn off the delivery reports as when message get deliver it shows intimation and light again switch on for few seconds.
if u r not enjoying the earphone quality then u can simply switch into apple’s earphone believe me it will give you the same or better earphone sound quality than any SONY’s walk man series phone. [ I have tested and felt the difference]. For that u simply have to buy the earphone conveter jack that would be compatable with apple’s earphone…and enjoy the difference….

The new phobe including Nokia 6300 have an Active Satndy Display option. Please suggest if using this option affects the battery life of the phone. Also can BL5C be used for 6300 wihout any modifications.

Hey All,
I saw RONY post a message suggesting the BL-4U was also the same size as the BL-4C. Are they interchangeable? Mods required? Anyone know for sure or try this?
Thanks…

what seems odd to me — is that the Nokia 5310XPRESS is actually SLIMMER and LIGHTER than the 6301 and the battery lasts way longer. They actually praised the battery in some reviews I’ve read.

It’s the BL-4CT — what’s the diff between it and the non-T

this model nokia 6300 is simply awsome…nokia has solved the problem of battery life..it comes with a same BL 4c battery but they made some technical changes coz of which battery life is good.(as compare to previous one ) my model production date is june 2008…so its the latest one..

hey THERES ANOTHER WAY OF IMPROVING BATTERY LIFE WITHOUT THE NEED OF MODDING!! i just bought a BL-4c battery from ebay for like $9 AUD +p&h which has 1000maH. so yea no need to buy bl-5c or what not. ^^

anthony
bl-4c ? or do you mean bl-4ct ?
how many days does it last now your phone?

Guys, please help. I bought the Nokia 6300 in Beijing 5 days ago…the battery died about a day before I left China, but I didnt see the need to recharge it until I returned to my country (Jamaica)…but now that I am home and trying to charge it (for the past 4 days), it simply is dead. it wont come on, and it doesnt seem to be accepting neither the battery nor the USB charge at all. Ive tried charging it at home and at the office where the voltage systems differ, but zip, nada. NOTHING. Its basically dead. Did I waste my money? It worked great while i was in China, while the battery was live.

Please could someone tell me how to turn off the GPRS system (and what it is!) and also how do you turn off the blue led lights? Thank you!

hey :)
its very interesting article.
Nice post.
realy gj

thank you ;)

I have similar problems with 6300. I have tried red key / soft key – nothing works. I turned off screen saver – still battery does not last even for half a day. I am going to try BL-5C and hope that it works.

I have just got my Nokia 6300 and have to say the battery life is very very poor. I have been using Sony Ericsson for years and the battery quality is great. So I have purchased myself a BL-4C off eBay look for seller – ukdelectronics he is selling 1000mAh versions and for £4.00 its worth a try.

If Nokia are aware of this WHY are they not sorting it. Remember sometimes people use there phone in emergencies.

do animated screensavers and wallpapers cause the battery to drain faster?there are many mouth-watery themes online but if are they worth-it? thanks guys!

Hello! I have my 6300 for 3 days now and i let it completely discharge and then charge it for 12 hours like the saleswoman said. The battery lasted only for a day, so i thought that the equipment has a problem. I came to this website and read and read these posts and i absolutely agree that the original battery that comes with the phone is crap. I have a nokia N70 that has a BL 5C 1020mah so i decided to try it on my 6300. i didnt need to sand it nor cutting it. It just fitted well in the phone, just inserted it at 45 degree and its perfect. The only thing is that the back cover does not completely close, but it holds still and you dont even notice!! I did it 5 minutes ago and i´ll see the result. I´ll keep you posted. C ya. Bye from Portugal.

Has anybody tried the 1200mah battery from Eastmaze that is sold on eBay? If so, how have you found it?

Just to clarify my previous post, I meant the BL-5C 1200mah battery from Eastmaze.

I recently bought my 6300. I’m very satisfied with it so far. With the use I make of it the battery lasts 3 days on average, which is ok. Of course a little more wouldn’t hurt.

I read on this post something about battery BL-4U. Does anyone know is it compatible with the 6300 or at least does it feat in it? Can’t find dimensions nowhere.

Two months back,I bought Nokia 6300 from RAK,U.A.E.
Now I am in India. It’s battery performance is very very poor. Please help me to find a solution for the above.I tink that Nokia company can do something.

hi dears,
thanks for ur suggetions made abt nokia6300 battery. i replace my battery BL5c 970mAh. i got more batery back up. now i feel something new on my phone . pls all use these Bl5c bateries.

I have only one doubt that any problem for the phone using this BL5c battery?

BL-5C really works; thanks for that tip.

OORRRR just do what I did take it back and get a sony ericsson k800i the battery lasts 4x longer! and you can change the screen brightness!!! and its cheaper too! also it has a way better camera with focus and 3.2mp

exactly working my 6300 for java application is bad idea, it could eating much more battery charge, and reduce the battery life, only can resist in 12hours, it’s so poor

do this same problems exist for Nokia 3600 and if so can the same tips be used? I dont think BL-5C fits in Nokia 3600. but the tip about pressing the hang-up button after locking the phone is a great one.

pls could u do that for me
i am really suffering with this poor battery

I just modified a BL-5C battery for my 6300 Nokia, plugged it in & started charging it….

Well, the phone works & charges…but when charging it w/ the BL-5C battery…the phone gets very very hot!!! It didn’t do that w/ the BL-4C battery!! even after just 5 mins of charging.

The BL-4C takes about 2 hours for a full charge….so i can’t imagine it for the 5C battery!!

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this normal?? Is it dangerous??

Wow…very very weird…..i’ve been watching & checking the charging status of the used BL-5C in the phone….each time, it’s been very very hot….so i would unplug to let it cool down.

Now, this last time i plugged it in, it got very hot again….but for about 10 mins….& now the overheating has stopped.

ti’s still charging but no more super hot phone….Weird…anyone???

Hey guys

I work in a officer where the supervisors have recently all got a Nokia 6300. Within a few days they were complaining about the battery life on them. I informed him about this and he immediately order us some new batteries. Unfortunately these were the same size as the original batteries and they were draining them within a few hours. Now fortunately you good people here came up with the idea of trimming down a BL-5C battery which I’ve done as I had loads of these lying around. Seems to be working fine however will post results here for you guys when I’m done testing it in a few days.

All I did was trim down the soft black plastic with a stanley knife at an angle to the battery surface to the gold pins till it fit. Only had to take maybe 0.5mm to 1mm and it fits perfectly. The back cover was a little snug but its not tight and easy still to get off.

Like I said, once its been tested I will post the results.

Hallo,

i acquired a nokia 6300 dual sim phone last week and cannot turn off the blue LED lights on the sides. Kindly advice how to turn them off as they reduce the battery life.

Message: 14 days ago just brought this phone brand new and there is a problem with phone menu, (sim services option) is missing from the phone software eg- (MENU> SETTINGS> PHONE> CONFIRM SIM ACTIONS). i need this option my phone keeps asking me to allow sim service action this option is missing, i have updated phone from your website, still no luck i have taken the phone to service centre carphone warehouse merry hill (job repair no:7887422 -branch 243 dudley merry hill) they still can not repair software what do i do next to get this simple menu option back in my phone. i use two sim cards, one is 02 the other is voda……..so i got a dual sim adapter and when it switches between the two cards it asks me to manual allow sim service action on the phone the user manual say the option should be there. i was told by nokia its the sim cards so i tryed 5 other network sim cards and still the same but the phone is asking me and i want to allow this to happen on automati… this works fine on my nokia 6230 and the opiton is in phone menu where it is meant to be what to next………….???????????????help please thanks david

I have changed my battery to the BL-5C and what a difference. No need to trim it down, but its a tight fit. No problems with getting hot. I received the battery on the 18th and have only need to charge it arrived. Looks like a better option.

Hi!

I found these solutions to 6300 battery problems:

– change the battery to BL-5C
– update phone’s software to the newest (now it’s v7.21)
– move the background pic to the phone memory
– turn off unnecessary functions (screensaver, ect..)

If anyone have other ideas please tell!

THX!

thankz dudes..

hi..,,
i hv bought d 6300 on 10th of may-2009,since that day bettery is not working more then one day.bettery result is so poor,so what is d original system to solve this problem?

turn off your bluetooth

thanks for your suggestion

for emergency, i’ve to keep reserve battery :p

Make sure the wifi is turned off when not in use.

Bought the BL-5C for Nokia 6300. Not too hard to tilt it and slide it into the battery slot. The case was not able to close all the way, which is the only drawback.

After a litttle playing, the back cover can complete close in without any mod. Looks exactly like having a BL-4C in there.

Dear sir

i think nokia 63000 is good phone

Here some demerits

1. poor batery back up
2 sound is very poor

approx 7000 cost is not so low ammont

Iam using nokia phone since 2000

please improve these demerits

i hope that u take a decesion as soon as possible

With regards

Hi, I’ve done the same thing as Eric. I fitted a brand new BL-5C battery in my Nokia 6300. It’s a bit tricky at first, but it does fit, and the cover closes all the way.

Hi,

I am using my Nokia 6300 model mobile for last 2 years. Recently mobile showing one battery problem, discharging the fully charged battery with in 10 hours. So I was fully charging the mobile twice in a day.

One I found some messages in Delivery reports folder in ‘Waiting’ status. After clearing these messages mobile is working fine. Now its give 3 days battery backup.

Regards,
Binoy

your site offers good descriptions about nokia models. i read a lot about 6300 model here.

i am using fxd s85 battery which is chinesh brand in my nokia 6300 which has 2000 mah capacity, almost double n half then nokia bl 4c battery n it is working great,,, i have no issue using unbranded battery from a year n my phone is also working nicely,,,,

hi to all I work in a Service Center for mobile phones and have come to the following conclusion… THERE ARE 2 or more different REVISIONS of the 6300 Hardware… there is the BLUE or CYAN pcb, the GREEN pcb and variations of the both…

I’ve worked with mostly blue hardware and the battery lasted only a DAY!!!

When I thought that all 6300 were crap I stumbled on a GREEN HARDWARE 6300 !!!! and wait for it…. THE BATTERY LASTS FOR DAYS even when you talk or listen to music etc… so when you buy a 6300 look under the battery – there is a small opening you can see the color of the printed board – if it’s blue or cyan it’s more likely to have a poor battery life and if it’s green GO FOR IT .. .i did and never regret it :D hope i Have helped you :) cheers :P

oh and one more thing …. I am using the BL-4C original battery … no need for BL-5C for the green pcb … anyway in both cases changing the battery won’t affect the whole performance a lot

just bought a nokia 6300 from a local reseller. It’s a beautiful phone with moderate battery backup. Thanks for your comments and i think i’ll try BL 5C 1020 MAH. It’s avaiable here in Mauritius
